How 2 Use Security Center In Windows Vista

HOME                      BACK

We will click the START button.

You will now click the CONTROL PANEL.

Click on SECURITY.

Click on SECURITY CENTER.

The Security Center monitors four different categories.

  1. Firewall
  2. Automatic Updating
  3. Malware Protection
  4. Other Security Settings

You will see one of my Security monitors is not green which means something is either turned off or missing something.

I will click the down arrow to the right of MALWARE PROTECTION to see what I am missing.

You see here Windows may not have found any Virus protection.

It may be installed but not found so I could click FIND A PROGRAM and associate the program with the Security Center to fix the issue.

I know that I have never installed Antivirus on this machine so I would need to do that to fix this issue.

You can see on the left that I have several options to choose from.

I will not go through each of these since they have all been covered in another tutorial on our site.

I do want to click on CHANGE THE WAY SECURITY CENTER ALERTS ME and take a look.

When you have problems with Security Centers four options that it watches such as the Firewall it will notify you

By diplaying an icon in the system tray.

This is where that is decided.

By default the first option YES, NOTIFY ME AND DISPLAY THE ICON (recommended) is selected.

NOTE: By default, the Windows Firewall is enabled.

NOTE: It is recommended to have the Automatic Updates scheduled at least once a week to download and install updates.

NOTE: Never turn off Automatic Update Checking.

NOTE: Once you have installed your Anti-Virus software verify the Malware Protection area is aware that it exists so it can be monitored.

This Ends The Task
