Install A Local Printer On The Server
In this task we will install
a printer that is attached to the server locally.
Go to the PRINTERS AND
FAXES.

Click on ADD PRINTER.

Click NEXT on the WELCOME TO
THE ADD PRINTER WIZARD page.

I will leave the LOCAL
PRINTER ATTACHED TO THIS COMPUTER checked and I will leave the AUTOMATICALLY
DETECT AND INSTALL MY PLUG AND
PLAY PRINTER option checked.
I will click NEXT.

You can see here that the
printer was not detected.
I will click NEXT and
install the printer manually.

I will leave the LPT1: (

I will select the HP
LaserJet 4M and click NEXT.

I will leave the PRINTER
NAME to the default but you can change the name to anything you desire.
I will leave the radio
button set to YES so this will be my default printer.
I will click NEXT.

The SHARE NAME is selected
by default.
You can modify this name to
anything you desire.
I will click NEXT.

Place in a LOCATION and
COMMENT about this printer.
Click NEXT.

You will be asked DO YOU
WANT TO PRINT A TEST PAGE?
Select YES or NO and click
NEXT.

Click FINISH.

You can see the printer is
highlighted that I just installed and it is shared showing the hand under the
printer.
The other two previously
installed printers were not shared and you can see this since they do not have
a hand under them.


NOTE: You can add any user
to the Print Operator Group in your domain and they will be able to do the
following.
1. Create and share printers.
2. Edit printer properties.
3. Log on to systems and shut them down.
4. Perform all tasks available through all printer
permissions.
NOTE: You have four ways to
connect a printer on your network.
1. LPT port.
2. USB
3. COM port
4. NIC connected to the printer.
